✅ What is Du’a?
Introduction
As Believers, we are being taught to believe in our Qadar, that is every condition is a manifestation of the Will of Allah, He knows everything, He is Just and Wise. Du’a, according to a Hadith, has the unique ability to change destiny (Tirmidhi).
The Prophet SAW said:
"Nothing can change the Divine decree except Du’a".
(Narrated by Ahmad, 5/277; Ibn Maajah, 90)
Du'a is a form of ibadah (worship) and zikrullah (remembrance of Allah). As mentioned in Sunan Abu Dawood hadith it is mentioned that,
‘Du'a is worship.’
All the Prophets (peace be upon them), as we find in the Qur'an, resorted to supplications as their ultimate weapon to ask Allah’s help when their affairs became difficult. In a Hadith, it is mentioned that
“Du'a is the essence of worship.”
(Musnad Ahmed & Tirmidhi)
Scholars referred to Du'a as a weapon of a believer, it can protect him from problems of life.
Du'a can be found in Al-Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW). Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has taught Du'a for various occasions and it is encouraged to recite these Du'a from both sources, however many scholars agreed that the best Du'a came from our heart with full of sincerity, in our own language and our own words. Even when your own Du'a is not as organised as from Al-Qur'an and the sunnah, but Allah (SWT) knows best our thoughts and intentions.
Du'a is a way to get the mercy of Almighty Allah as Hadith says:
"Whoever has the gate of du’aa’ opened to him, has the gates of mercy opened to him. Allah is never asked for anything that He gives which is more beloved to Him than being asked for good health and well-being. Du'a is beneficial about what has been decreed and what has not been decreed. So, O slaves of Allah, you must make Du'a.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3548)
